DMTC is a national entity and has operated in the Australian defence industry sector since 2008. A not-for-profit company, DMTC has an extensive network of innovation and technology development partners in Australia and internationally. DMTC works across mul- tiple disciplines to support the development of sovereign industrial capability for Australia’s defence and national security agencies. Our catchcry of capability through col- laboration has been demonstrated by over a decade of successful program manage- ment. Our approach to Intellectual Property (IP) supports rapid utilisation and adoption of technology and ensures IP is defined and controlled at the individual project level. DMTC provides commercial rights to industry within defined use fields, and research rights to research partners for further development in Australia. The maturity of our operating model has been confirmed by ISO 9001 Quality Management and, more recently, ISO 44001 Collaborative Business Management accreditations. These benchmarks are further indicators of DMTC’s commitment to quality and collaboration and the value we provide to our partners. DMTC’s management team has deep ex- perience across a range of disciplines, and the DMTC model is applicable and scalable across program disciplines giving DMTC the capability to respond effectively to a range of contemporary challenges. The DMTC model delivers significant benefits to Defence and government organisations, industry and research partners: • For Defence & Government – DMTC provides an efficient and tested model to mobilise industrial capability to support national objectives. • For Industry – DMTC provides a significantly more effective way to engage in research and development and enhance competitiveness. • For the Research sector – DMTC creates opportunities, through targeted investment and other support, for researchers to conduct industrially-relevant research supporting defence and national security objectives. Getting in touch with us DMTC’s program development team wel- comes enquiries or proposals from prospec- tive industry or research partners. Let us know about your capabilities and how they align with your understanding of Defence’s needs and DMTC’s expertise. There may be opportunities for new partners to join existing DMTC projects, or through ex- tensions to current work or commencement of new activities. From time to time, DMTC will also release targeted calls for proposals or invite regionally-based clusters of small busi- nesses to benefit from targeted technology transfer initiatives. How the model works Success in the defence sector, and in inno- vation and technology development in par- ticular, is widely accepted as a ‘long game’. Technologies can take many years to develop and mature, and this requires continuity of approach as well as discipline and persever- ance. DMTC projects & programs operate on a co- investment model, an approach that allows each partner to leverage the expertise, in- vestment, human resources and capabilities of the other partners. DMTC projects would not succeed without active contributions from each project partner. This genuinely collabor- ative model provides the pathway to creating national industrial capability. DMTC’s focus on the industrial application and adoption of bril- liant underpinning research is reflected in the bulk of project activities falling in the Technol- ogy Readiness Level (TRL) range from TRL 3 to TRL 7-8. The involvement of the Defence customer at every step of DMTC’s program management model ensures ongoing relevance to the De- fence end-user. DMTC also continues to play an important role in building a more capable and defence- ready industry sector. DMTC has a strong fo- cus on engaging small businesses, including indigenous-owned businesses, in its research and development activities, and equipping them to participate in defence sector supply chains.
