Engagement occurs both nationally and internationally. WORKING WITH INDUSTRY DSTG seeks to engage and collaborate with Australian industry, academia and the wider science and technology community through a range of arrangements to gain access to world leading innovation, science and technology that meet future Defence needs, and facilitates: • Accelerated development and transfer of innovation to enhance Defence capability and enable industry to take advantage of dual use opportunities for entry into broader markets, • Strong longer term working relationships with industry and Australian research and development organisations that will enable easier identification of development opportunities and shape technology developments, and • Industry access to DSTG’s unique research expertise and facilities. DSTG has 28 strategic research and development alliances with defence primes, small and medium enterprises and publicly funded research agencies. University Partnerships are undertaken as part of the Defence Science Partnerships (DSP) program. Every public university in Australia has signed onto the DSP and the program provides a common pre-agreed framework under which Australian Universities can work with Defence. The adoption of the 2024 National Defence Strategy (NDS) and the 2024 Integrated Investment Program (IIP) address Australia’s most significant strategic risks based on the concept of National Defence. The NDS has stressed the need for urgency and asymmetric capability with national and international partners. The NDS will see a Strategy of Denial becoming the cornerstone of Defence planning, and the Australian Defence Force (ADF) will transition to an integrated, focused force. The new Defence Industry Development Strategy (DIDS) reflects the changing strategic circumstances and delivers the initiatives required to develop Australia’s sovereign defence industrial base required to meet our national security requirements. The IIP identifies defence specific capabilities the Government will invest in to give effect to the NDS. It provides a generational uplift in Defence’s capabilities and reflects a coherto support greater innovative industry outcomes. • Tailor grants to assist the development of SMEs to meet Defence requirements in the short, medium and long terms. The Australian Government provides a range of grants to support defence industry businesses. These grants help Australian SMEs grow to meet Defence capability needs and join global defence industry supply chains. ODIS provides a seamless experience for business to engage with Defence. It is the trusted link for Australian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) looking to enter or expand their footprint in the Defence industry. The core function of ODIS, through its offices around Australia, is to provide advisory, guidance and mentoring services to SMEs. ODIS also works with State and Territory agencies, industry associations and Defence business partners, to help deliver capability that equips and sustains the Australian Defence Force. KEY SERVICES • Specialist defence business advice, increasing the competitiveness of Australian Defence SME partners so they have the capability to integrate into supply chains and grow to become competitive providers. • Direct linkages to Defence procurement programs through proactively identifying needs of Defence capability managers and delivery groups. • Identify current SMEs who can meet Defence needs in the short term and assist to build the capability of Defence industry. • Direct linkages to Defence end users to support innovative industry initiatives. • Assist SMEs to work with end users, Defence projects and industry programs
